Learn through connection
Names are easier to remember when they are connected to a place, time, and contribution. That is why every quiz clue points to a short profile with context, key facts, and routes to further exploration.
A growing global collection
Our collection currently covers 558 historical figures across 110 countries, six world regions, and five eras, from ancient rulers to modern history makers in politics, science, the arts, and sports. It is designed to move beyond a single national story — browse by region, country, era, or topic, and return for new, shuffled quiz rounds as the dataset grows.
How profiles are researched
Each profile starts from publicly available reference sources, primarily Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons, and is written as a concise summary rather than a full biography. Dates, roles, and key facts are cross-checked before publishing, and profiles are revised when errors are reported. Who in History is a learning aid and reference starting point — for citations or academic work, consult primary sources, libraries, or peer-reviewed scholarship.
Images and sourcing
Portraits are served from Wikimedia Commons. Each image is selected from material marked as public domain or free licensed there; please use the source link and its file page to review its specific author, license, and attribution terms.
Who runs this site
Who in History is an independently run educational project. It is supported in part by advertising; see our Privacy page for details on how that works.
